7th November 2018
On November 6, 2018, Shane Loftus, District 15 CEC Representative, as well as Deirdre O’Connor and Niamh Cooper, INTO Officials, visited St. Luke’s National School in Tyrrelstown, and met with the teaching staff of both St. Luke’s NS and Tyrrelstown Educate Together.
Both schools have remained closed to students, having being categorised by the Department for Education and Skills as requiring “implementation of internal engineering solutions and external precautionary measures” before they can re-open to pupils. That work is ongoing. The staff of both schools are committed to doing what they can to ensure the schools open to receive pupils at the earliest possible time. They attend work as normal
each day, in very difficult working conditions, to assist in whatever way possible to ensure there is a safe and appropriate teaching and learning environment before the return of pupils.
The INTO continues to liaise with the Department for Education and Skills regarding the matter, in particular to seek assurances on behalf of the teaching staff regarding the safety of their place of work.
