INTO Launches General Election Manifesto Checklist

The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) has today unveiled its General Election Manifesto Checklist, providing members with a clear and concise analysis of how political parties measure up against the union’s 30 for 30 General Election Campaign asks.

Using a simple traffic light system, the checklist evaluates party manifestos, highlighting how well they address key issues affecting primary and special education. All political parties were provided with a copy of the INTO manifesto in advance, giving them ample time to consider the union’s demands and include concrete commitments in their policies.

Speaking at the launch, INTO General Secretary John Boyle emphasised the value of this resource for members:

We have done the hard work for members, scrutinising every single page of the party manifestos we had access to in time for publishing this checklist. This useful poster, which we encourage members to print and display on your staffroom noticeboards, gives you an indication of how the parties vying for your vote fare on supporting primary and special education.

We urge every member to champion our education system and raise at least one issue from our manifesto with any candidate you speak to, alongside other pressing societal issues such as childcare and housing, which remain chronic problems in our communities.

New INTO Podcast Episode

Alongside the publication of the checklist, the INTO has also today released a special Teacher Talk with the INTO podcast episode. This instalment delves into the upcoming General Election and explores the critical issues affecting primary and special education.

Members can access the General Election Manifesto Checklist on the INTO website and listen to the latest podcast episode on their favourite streaming platform.
