21st February 2025
The INTO Northern Conference 2025 kicks off at The Europa Hotel, Belfast on Friday, 28 February, bringing together 250 delegates and guests to tackle the most pressing issues facing education in Northern Ireland.
The top priority on the conference agenda will be the commitment to delivering a fair pay offer for members across Northern Ireland, who have been awaiting salary increases since last September. The conference will also address other key issues, including workload, special education, funding, industrial action, and physical assaults. This year’s event will serve as a powerful platform for teachers to demand real change.
Key speakers at Northern Conference 2025 will include:
- Cllr Andrew McCormick, Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast
- Nick Mathison MLA, Chair, Northern Ireland Assembly Committee on Education
- Carmel Browne, INTO President
- Geraldine McGowan, INTO Northern Chair
- Mark McTaggart, INTO Northern Secretary
Against the backdrop of the ongoing industrial action campaign, the conference will provide a crucial opportunity for members to unite and set the agenda for the coming year.
Mark McTaggart, INTO Northern Secretary, stated:
I am delighted to welcome delegates from across the North to this year’s INTO Northern Conference. The past few years have been incredibly challenging, culminating in an unprecedented fight for fair pay and a balanced workload. However, we gather in Belfast, united in our purpose.
This conference is about amplifying our voices, demanding accountability from the Executive, and tackling the recruitment and retention crisis in our education system. Together, we will continue to fight for a well-funded, high-quality education for every child in Northern Ireland.
The INTO Northern Conference is the annual regional event that shapes the union’s priorities in Northern Ireland. Delegates will debate motions, amendments, and the Northern Committee’s Annual Report, setting the work programme for the year ahead.
All public sessions will be recorded and made available for members post-conference.
