Department advises 9 counties not to open schools
In anticipation of Storm Eunice and the threat of multi-hazard weather events, including strong winds and heavy snow as flagged by Met Éireann, the Department of Education has issued a notice advising schools in the following counties (where there are either status red wind alerts or status orange snow warnings) not to open tomorrow, 18 February, and for remote teaching and learning to commence, where possible:
- Cork
- Clare
- Kerry
- Donegal
- Mayo
- Sligo
- Leitrim
- Roscommon
- Waterford
Storm Eunice will reach its peak during school commuting hours resulting in potentially hazardous journeys to school in the morning in the affected counties.
Schools in all other counties may open, subject to local conditions. Schools should also keep an eye on Met Éireann website, particularly if there is any change in the status warning assigned to their county. Substitution
INTO has received confirmation from the Department that all substitutes who were scheduled to work tomorrow, will be paid as normal.
