1st March 2022
International Women’s Day 2022 takes place next Tuesday, 8 March. The theme for this year’s event, #BreaktheBias, focuses on the need to tackle bias, stereotypes and discrimination, seeking to create a world that is diverse, equitable and inclusive.
We encourage members to take part and share photographs in the coming week, posting messages celebrating diversity and inclusion within our schools and highlighting women’s achievements in the field of education and beyond.
National Rally
On Saturday, 5 March at 12.00 noon the National Women’s Council (NWC) will hold a rally outside Leinster House calling for political leadership and action on equality for women.
We urge members to attend the rally on Saturday, particularly Dublin based activists. Members of other public service unions including teaching unions will also be in attendance.
INTO flags will be available from Club Na Múinteoirí, 36 Parnell Square between 11.00 and 11.30 a.m on Saturday for members attending the rally.
The key demands of the rally are as follows;
• A zero-tolerance culture to end male violence against women;
• Women’s representation in all spaces where decisions are made affecting women’s lives;
• Access to quality public services including childcare, housing, and a decent income;
• A healthcare system that has women at its centre – including access to abortion, ownership of the National maternity Hospital, and free contraception.
