The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation is now recruiting for a Senior Official/Deputy Director of Communications (permanent) and an Acting Senior Official (12 month contract). Details of the two roles are provided below.
Senior Official / Deputy Director of Communications

The INTO communications team informs members, amplifies their voice and executes high-impact campaigns and events. We’re seeking an exceptional communications leader to oversee the creation of various publications and external content, including a leading education member magazine. The ideal candidate is calm, organised and has experience managing and motivating creative teams and external support staff.
This role requires advanced skills in planning and delivering effective communication strategies that engage key stakeholders and drive the union’s message forward with impact.

- A strong academic background and professional experience.
- Proven success in writing for various media and simplifying complex information.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and project management skills, with the ability to work independently.
- Strong digital media skills.
- Experience in people management, including staff development and performance management.
- A thorough understanding of current education/ industrial relations issues.
- Ability to manage a diverse team and collaborate across the organisation.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience managing external and internal communications.
- A results-driven approach, with a track record of innovation, passion, and flexibility in advancing a communications strategy.
The role is based in INTO Head Office in Dublin and will be required to travel to carry out the duties of the post. Remote working may be available, in line with INTO Head Office policy.

Working environment: | Normal place of work is Head Office, Parnell square, Dublin 1 with the option for enrolment in a flexible remote working scheme following a probationary period. |
The successful applicant will be required to work as part of a dynamic team in Head Office committed to achieving the INTO’s objectives. While initial duties will be in the Conditions of Employment and Leadership Section, flexibility is a key requirement and the capacity to work across all sections of the office is essential.

The successful candidate will have:
- A strong academic background and a minimum of five years’ relevant professional experience.
- A comprehensive knowledge of the INTO to drive the delivery of the union’s key priorities.
- A thorough understanding of current educational, industrial relations and school leadership issues.
- Experience and expertise in negotiating and handling complex industrial relations issues.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills and an ability to build, maintain and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
- High standards of research, policy development and project management skills.
- Leadership capacity and the ability to assist in managing and developing a team of people to deliver a reliable and quality service for INTO members.
- A commitment to continuously develop knowledge and skills.
- A results-driven approach with evidence of being innovative, energetic and flexible in advancing strategy.
