Mullingar member wins €10,000 in draw for CHF

The winner of the top prize of €10,000 in the INTO Members’ Draw in aid of the Children’s Health Foundation is Declan Claffey from Eoin Naofa NS, Mullingar, Co Westmeath.

Some €67,826 was raised for the foundation’s research into sickle cell disease, well in excess of the €60,000 target.

The second prize of €3,000 was won by a member at Old Borough NS, Swords, Co Dublin.

The Children’s Health Foundation raises vital funds to support sick children and their families in Children’s Health Ireland hospitals and urgent care centres in Crumlin, Temple Street, Tallaght and Connolly hospitals. All proceeds will be used to fund the final year of a research project into sickle cell disease, a genetic blood disorder that affects millions of people worldwide.

INTO Deputy General Secretary Deirdre O’Connor congratulated the winners of this year’s draw and thanked members for their generosity. She also noted that following a decision by Congress 2023, this will be the last members draw and instead charitable donations will be funded through member subscriptions.

Yet again our members have dug deep and shown their compassion for people despite the pressure on income caused by inflation. We are delighted to be able to support research that will make a real difference to the lives of children with sickle cell disease.”

“Following a Congress resolution in April, next year, we will make charitable donations from members’ subscriptions. Beneficiaries will be decided by the CEC, but we will be able to continue to support the Children’s Health Foundation.”

There were 10 cash prizes available from the €20,000 prize fund.
