On Monday, 18 December, Liberty Hall, Dublin, was lit up from 4pm with a projection calling for a ‘CeasefireNOW’.
The initiative was organised by Dóchas, the Irish Network for International Development and Humanitarian Organisations, of which INTO is an associate member, to express the unanimous support by Irish international NGO’s for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East.
Organisations and individuals from more than 90 countries across the world marked a Global Day of Action to push for a sustained ceasefire in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory to protect all civilians affected by the conflict.
The event was organised by humanitarian and human rights NGOs from across the world. In total, more than 3.5 million signatures have been recorded across three major ceasefire petitions–Change.org, Amnesty International, and Avaaz. The Global Day of Action activates and makes visible the collective strength and power of international calls on political leaders to push for a ceasefire now.
Amidst an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, a ceasefire is urgently needed to end further loss of life and ensure sufficient aid reaches those in dire need.
The INTO General Secretary and members of the ICTU Executive Council met the Palestinian ambassador, Dr. Jilan Wahba Abdelhamid, this morning, 19 December.
Many INTO members have already participated in demonstrations showing solidarity with the Palestinian people and the organisation has made substantial donations to UNICEF and to Education International who are striving to assist children, educators and their families in Gaza.
